Jack Dellal was an enigmatic, controversial property tycoon who emerged unscathed from economic crashes over several decades. He was widely regarded as one of the most remarkable money- making machines in the City of London over the past 65 years.
In 1972, Dellal made his mark; the securities firm Dalton Barton was sold for £58m, to Keyser Ullmann (KU), the bank that was chaired by Edward du Cann, MP. Dellal then became deputy chairman of KU and he established Allied Commercial.
Edward Du Cann succeeded Duncan Sandys as Chairman of Lonrho, a position from which he was forced to resign due to his role as deputy chairman of Homes Assured, a finance company which crashed. He was criticized as "incompetent" by a 1974 Department of Trade and Industry report regarding the bankrupt Keyser Ullman bank, of which he was a director.
The Lonrho Company was incorporated in the United Kingdom on 13 May 1909 as the London and Rhodesian Mining and Land Company Limited. Businessman Tiny Rowland was recruited as chief executive in 1962.

Tchenguiz vs Grant Thornton (and the SFO):
Two individuals from Grant Thornton, the accountancy firm, have failed in their attempt to block a ruling that ordered the disclosure of documents that the Serious Fraud Office relied on to build its botched investigation into the Tchenguiz brothers.
The Court of Appeal on Thursday dismissed the challenge brought by Steve Akers, a Grant Thornton partner, and Mark McDonald, a director at the accountancy firm’s British Virgin Isles unit.
They were appealing against a judgment from July that ordered the disclosure of five reports as part of a £300m damages claim brought by the Tchenguiz brothers against the SFO – the largest damages claim in the agency’s history.
The damages claim follows the brothers’ successful judicial review against the SFO in 2012. The judgment following that challenge criticised the SFO for not explaining an alleged conflict of interest between Grant Thornton and the judge who authorised the warrants for the pair’s searches and arrest.
It emerged during the case that the firm was not only instructed by the resolution committee of Kaupthing to look into the bank’s lending but Grant Thornton individuals were also simultaneously locked in £2bn civil litigation against the brothers.
According to the Guardian in 2012:
Leading the courtroom fightback against the SFO on behalf of Tchenguiz is Lord Goldsmith,
